The Distillery
Butterfly Spirits was founded in 2018 by Alyssa and Josh Ammerman, Montgomery County natives who believe a spirit should be beautiful, a little surprising, and easy to love. We're inspired by the power and beauty of change — the idea that the everyday can become extraordinary.
In 2026 we opened our own distillery in North Bethesda — and for the first time, every bottle is made by the people whose name is on the label.

Alyssa Ammerman
Founder & Owner
A former physical therapist, Bethesda mom and fitness enthusiast, Alyssa founded Butterfly Spirits and leads the business — from creative direction to product development and community engagement. The brand's eye for beauty and transformation is hers.
Josh Ammerman
Co-Founder
A practicing neurosurgeon and fellow Bethesda native, Josh serves — by his own cheerful admission — at the pleasure of his high-school sweetheart, Alyssa. He pitches in wherever a hand is needed and takes full credit for making a mess of the distillery.
Bryan Roman
Director of Operations
With a deep background in alcohol production and logistics, Bryan runs Butterfly's day-to-day — overseeing spirits production, facility maintenance and distribution.
Alex Morsechi
General Manager
A veteran of the hospitality and adult-beverage worlds, Alex leads front-of-house: beverage creation, guest experience, events and the distillery's onsite food and beverage program.
Melanie Osipowicz
Head of Marketing & Communications · Sales Manager
An artist and designer by training with a background in the spirits trade, Melanie leads Butterfly's marketing, communications and sales — shaping the brand's story and getting our spirits into the right hands.
